    About Bob

“Grumpa” Bob is a retired Marine with 20 years of service, followed by another 26+ years as a chimney sweep—earning him a solid reputation with Santa himself and a natural path into toy making. These days, he spends his time in the shop working on anything wood, usually with friends dropping in to swap stories. Woodworking is his retirement passion project, keeping him sharp, busy, and out of trouble. Bob became a grandfather in 2012 and will welcome his 17th grandchild at the end of 2025.

How to Care for Your Board

Bob builds his boards to last, but a little care goes a long way. After each use, rinse with warm water and mild soap, then dry thoroughly with a towel. Never soak your board or put in the dishwasher.

To keep the wood nourished and looking its best, apply a coat of food-grade mineral oil whenever the board starts to look dry. With this simple routine, your board will stay sturdy, beautiful, and ready for years of meals and memories.

    Why End Grain?

End grain cutting boards are the gold standard for serious cooks. Instead of cutting against the grain, your knife slips between the wood fibers—keeping blades sharper for longer. The fibers also naturally “self-heal,” closing back up after each cut to maintain a smooth surface.

Add in their durability and striking patterns, and you’ve got a board that’s as hardworking as it is beautiful—built to handle daily prep and still look great for years.

Why Your Board May Have a Plug

From time to time, you may notice a small round plug in one of Bob’s boards. Here’s why: when sanding, tiny fissures or pits in the wood can show up—spots that might trap food particles or meat juices. Rather than let that slide, Bob drills out the area and plugs it with a piece of the same wood. It’s a safety-first fix that keeps your board both beautiful and worry-free, so you can chop, slice, and serve with confidence.

    Handcrafted with Care

Every Bob’s Board is unique, and here’s why:

    • Individually crafted – each board takes four days from start to finish.

    • Built with thoughtful details – a juice groove and chamfered edges come standard, at no extra charge.

    • Perfectly balanced – sturdy enough for everyday use, yet light enough to handle with ease.
